In order to speed up the processing of Social Security Disability claims, the Social Security Administration (SSA) implemented the Compassionate Allowances program in 2008. The Compassionate Allowances program is intended to expedite the initial claim process for those individuals deemed to have a disabling condition that qualifies as a Compassionate Allowance.
The SSA has compiled a list of 200+ disabling conditions that qualify for the Compassionate Allowance program. If you have medical documentation to prove that you have one of the qualifying conditions, your initial claim will automatically be flagged by the SSA and processed in as little as 10 days.
Compassionate Allowances are a way to rapidly distinguish illnesses and other medical conditions that meet Social Security's benchmarks for inability benefits. These conditions basically incorporate certain cancers, adult neurological disorders, and a number of uncommon disorders that affect adults and children.
Listed below are the conditions that qualify for an expedited application process. All of these disabilities will automatically medically qualify for SSDI or SSI benefits. Please click on the name of the condition for more information on how to apply for disability benefits when suffering from that specific condition:
